Here is one for the record books that I would like to say should surprise everyone, but given that it is coming out of Texas, I don’t think anyone will be surprised… It will definitely upset the liberals and probably rattle a group or two of conservatives.
I don’t think anyone should be surprised though, this is one of those many consequences that we should expect from allowing President Obama to force Americans to buy health insurance. The idea that the government can require us to purchase anything is absurd. If you follow the “tax” theory used for Obamacare, if the day ever comes the government wants everyone to own a new FORD SUV every 5 years, they can just call it a tax.
This Bill that has already been passed in Texas and that Governor Greg Abbott has expressed support for publically means it will not be long before it is signed into law.
The law will require women who seek an abortion to purchase a supplemental rape insurance plan along with their healthcare insurance.
“Women and parents will be faced with the horrific decision of having to purchase ‘rape insurance’ to cover them if they are victimized,” Democratic Representative Chris Turner said in a statement. “This is not only ridiculous, but it is cruel.”
“No woman plans to be raped. No parent plans for their child to be a victim of incest.” The idea that a woman would be forced to consider purchasing for herself – or a parent would be forced to purchase for their child – essentially a rape insurance policy should be abhorrent.”
The Bills sponsor, Republican John Smithee, says it’s not that simple though.
“It’s a question of economic freedom and freedom in general. This isn’t about who can get an abortion. It is about who is forced to pay for an abortion.”
In other words what he is saying is that he does not want people who are opposed to abortion being forced to pay for someone to get one. Sounds reasonable enough to me…
Some people are arguing that puts all of the cost on the woman and that men are let off the hook. I can’t say as I see anything wrong with that, they certainly refuse to acknowledge the man has any say whatsoever in the decision to kill their child, so let them cover the additional cost of being a woman.
Others say that since most women will not pay for the extra insurance, it will make it harder for them to get an abortion and they may not. Some also argue that this essentially denies them the right to get an abortion.
There are currently 10 other states that ban private insurance plans from covering abortions, Texas expects to be added to that list soon.
Any officer can get by on his sergeants. To be a sergeant you have to know your stuff. I’d rather be an outstanding sergeant than just another officer.
