Shortly after 0700 hours this morning, there was a group of Republicans practicing for their annual charity softball game, that has been being played since 1909, when a gunman opened fire with a rifle causing everyone on the field to scramble for safety.
It has been reported that two of the players were leaving the practice early, when a man who has now been identified as James Hodgkinson, asked them who was practicing on the field. After they informed the man that it was congressional staff practicing for a charity game, the man asked them if they were Republican or Democrat, to which they replied, Republican.
In was not long after that encounter that the shooter, James Hodginson, opened fire on those practicing on the field.
The field is fenced in with only one way in and out, so the people were trapped. Majority Whip Seteve Scalise was standing on 2nd base and was hit almost immediately in his hip, left helpless on the field for some 10 minutes as the gunman continued firing on the helpless victims.
Fortunately, since Steve Scalise (R-LA) is a member of House Leadership, he had a protective detail with two members of the Capitol Police. Both Capitol Police Officers were wounded while engaging the shooter and everyone on scene is crediting them with saving their lives and preventing a total massacre.
The police are still not releasing a lot of detail on specifics, but we do know that at least 5 people were wounded and reports are that all of them are going to be fine. The shooter, James Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old male, was wounded and transported to the hospital, but fortunately he expired and will not become a burden to the taxpayers. We will also be spared his excuses and ignorant ramblings.
The #congressionalbaseballgame is on. We will play for charity, but also for the victims & the heroic officers who took down the shooter.

Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, a true friend and patriot, was badly injured but will fully recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
