The entire illegal immigration debacle is turning out to be fairly entertaining. Not only did House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi do her best imitation of a filibuster (what, does she think she’s a senator) standing in spike heels for eight hours while her facial muscles all but quit working, but now actual illegal immigrants, people living in the country without permission, are threatening to leave if DACA is not renewed.
A group of illegal immigrants have declared if the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, isn’t extended, they will protest by leaving the U.S.
Weighing the options, one of the protesters, Alex Velez, warned CNN, “I will leave. I will leave America as soon as possible.”
Well, Senor Velez, tell you what. It’s a deal. No DACA, and you can go home to your native country of Venezuela where people have eaten all the pets because the government is terrible at food distribution. You leaving on your own will save we the American people the cost of your deportation.
Seriously, do these people understand just how dumb they sound? Threatening to give the people who elected Donald Trump as president exactly what we want with no expense to us?
Wow. These people really do have an inflated opinion of their importance in the United States. The actually think their sudden departure will hurt the U.S. economy.
The logic behind these unlawful residents’ threats amounts to quickly creating a noticeable void in their absence. Velez and her family believe they are owed citizenship for holding jobs and paying tuition, so America will miss what they provide, reports The Daily Wire.
U.S. citizenship is owed to no one. Americans, real Americans, know that. In addition, people who come here to work really do need to have some sort of specialized skill that cannot be easily found within the borders. Some of us descend from such immigrants who came to work in the foundries over a hundred years ago. Our ancestors made no demands of the government, and when it was obvious that returning to the Old Country was not going to happen, they applied for citizenship.
That is the point aliens like Velez miss. American citizenship is not a right. It is a privilege. And it is one Americans do not simply give away.
