SHOOTING Update Deceased Victim Identified
NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department has provided a shooting update from this morning identifying the deceased victim as Demontris Toliver.
[mks_dropcap style=”rounded” size=”32″ bg_color=”#ff0000″ txt_color=”#0000ef”]D[/mks_dropcap]emontris Toliver was a 25-year-old tattoo artist at Effum Underground’s on Florida Blvd. He was the only fatality from the shooting incident that left 1 dead and 9 injured on Bourbon Street at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Michael Harrison, the New Orleans Police Superintendent, said the shooting stemmed from an argument between two men that do not live in New Orleans. He described the two suspects as young African-American males.
The Superindendant has reported that five of the nine victims have been released from the hospital as of tonight. The other four injured victims are still being treated in the hospital for their injuries, but are expected to fully recover.
Friends of Demontris Toliver say that he was in town celebrating the Bayou Classic Football Game, played between Southern University and Grambling State University.
City officials are frustrated by the shooting and have denounced the violence.
“This is unacceptable, especially on a night like this,”Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. “It’s a tragic end to what was otherwise a beautiful weekend.”
If we receive any new substantive information we will provide another update.
